Sydney Metropolitan Plan Review - an important opportunity and a test of community will?

Submitted by peter on Sat, 30/05/2009 - 22:30

The 2005 Sydney Metropolitan "City of Cities" Strategy, prepared by the NSW Department of Planning, covers the period up to December 2010 and is due for review in 2010. The review process is proposed to include community consultation. The questions now are...

Will the consultation be real?; will the communities of Sydney get organised enough to represent their views in a coherent and convincing way?; will the communities be listened to?; will the result be a revised plan that addresses the critical issues of preparing Sydney to deal effectively with population growth, peak oil, and the need to minimise our human impact on our global climate?

It falls to every citizen of this Sydney region, Australia's largest population centre, consumer of energy in all its forms, producer of waste and pollution in all its forms to give a damn and to take a stand for a sustanaible future Sydney. Take notice and get involved. Start by making yourself familiar with the 2005 plan. You will find it here
